Zero Tariff For Leather Products In Africa

According to AdamaGaye, author of "dragon and ostrich", trade between China and Africa is rising from the trade volume of US $10 billion in 2000 to the trade volume estimated at US $55 billion in 2008.

China's trade activities in Africa began in 1980s, following Deng Xiaoping's "open policy" to open up trade and investment.

China imports oil and ore mainly from countries such as Angola, Zambia, Nigeria, Congo and the Democratic Republic of South Africa.

At the same time, China provides industrial development and infrastructure to these countries, such as roads, railways and schools, hospitals and universities that Africa strongly expects.

Under the policy of increasing geopolitical and commercial influence, China has announced zero tariffs on some 4762 types of products imported from 33 less developed countries.

This measure came into force in July 1st, including all leather products.

The list of these countries includes 26 African countries and 7 countries from other regions such as Nepal and Bangladesh.

Zero import tariffs will apply to textiles, leather products, agricultural products, glass, iron and steel and minerals.

By offering preferential trade terms and investment policies in Africa, the Chinese government has provided support and obtained raw materials from Africa to speed up its economic development.

Since 2001, China has put 41 underdeveloped countries on the list of import zero tariffs.
